Becoming the Evil Auntie

I've always wanted to be "the Aunt" rather than "the Mother". It didn't take too much paying attention growing up to see the very distinct and visible difference between my Mother and her sister, my Aunt.

Well, my Sister has finally decided to become pregnant and make me an aunt! I say, "Evil Auntie" because, it will of course be my job to make sure and push as many of my Sister's 'maternal' buttons as possible once the child is on this plane. Once my sister told me she was pregnant we immediately began discussing alternate birthing methods, because, as she was quick to discover, hospitals only want one thing from a mother-to-be...and that's her absolute attention, obedience and money. Basically, right after the nurse said, "Yes you are pregnant." they handed my sister a stack of forms and said do you want package A, B, or C? She said...um, D? Yup, that's right folks, please learn about your local health care systems. Dear Baton Rouge, did you know that ZERO children have been born through natural child birth at the "WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S" Hospital here in Baton Rouge? Did you also know that there is only 1 (ONE) Midwife available in the whole city who will work with the Hospitals and she is at the Baton Rouge General?

It's a sad but true state of affairs. At any rate, per my Sister's request (I will more than likely blog more on this at a later date) I am posting about Ricki Lake's movie "The Business of Being Born." According to my sister it is allllll about what she already feared to be true...that hospitals are only concerned with getting the kid out alive...regardless of what that involves. So here is the link and I will be updating more as my sister grows....as she says "huge."
